Mother Night – started

I’ve just started Mother Night by Kurt Vonnegut and so far I really like it. One of my all time favorite quotes is “We are what we pretend to be, so we must be careful of what we pretend to be”. I was reading the introduction talking about Vonnegut’s real life experience with the war and was completely surprised to find out that he wrote the introduction (and part of this book, if not all) at the college I graduated from. Maybe I’m just having a brain lapse, but how could I have not know that Vonnegut taught at U of Iowa!! I knew he had gotten a degree from U of Chicago (where my sister graduated) of course that was after he left the school :).

This book is very different from what I’ve been into lately. I’ve been reading A LOT of vampire romance books. I love vampire stories. Don’t know why. I’m sure I could think of some reasons. I loved Buffy. I loved Twilight. I loved the Southern Vampire series. However, I’ve been trying to break the cycle and throw in some books from other genres. And boy is this a different genre. I’m excited to break out of my comfort zone and experience something new. I’ll be sure to check back in at the halfway point… that is if I don’t finish it in one sitting…
