Books that Bite – Read-a-Thon Mini-Challenge

btbbutton

Welcome read-a-thoners!! I’m super excited to be participating in my first 24 hour read-a-thon!! I’m also very happy to be hosting a mini-challenge!

mini challenge

I recently fell in love with the Southern Vampire series by Charlaine Harris and want to get as many people hooked on it as I can! So I’m giving away the first two books in the series(Dead Until Dark and Living Dead in Dallas)!

All you have to do is leave me a comment telling me

who is your favorite vampire from a book.

Is it Eric from the the Southern Vampire series? Or maybe Bones from the Night Huntress books (my personal favorite!)? Or possibly Jean-Claude from the Anita Blake series? Just tell me who he or she is and what book they are from!

This mini-challenge will last for 3 hours (until 9pm CT).

Good luck and hope you’re enjoying the read-a-thon!!

  2. An obvious choice would be Edward from Twilight 🙂 But not counting that (and the fact that most have an unhealthy crush on this fictional character- not me!)Micheal Quinn from Immortality Bites Series is one of my favorite Vampires.

  3. http://adkshep.blogspot.com/2009/10/well-here-is-my-read-thon-reading-pile.html

My favorite vampire would have to be Charlotte from Pretty Dead, which i just finished reading, i love her character and her longing to be alive, and just a regular person. The want to be normal, and have a child, and fall in love, she is easy to love and sympathize with.

  4. Jean Claude from the Anita Blake series by Laurell K. Hamilton. He is so sexy and so bad…

  5. Can I say, Mr. Darcy from Mr. Darcy, Vampyre. Really great book, but I believe it’s not officially out yet (but my sleep-addled brain cannot be certain).

  6. My favourite traditional vampire is Claudia from the Anne Rice books. 🙂 But I read Fledgling by Octavia Butler last month, which is a non-traditional vampire book and loved the main character Shori.

  7. I don’t read too much vampire fiction…but I am totally fascinated by Claudia from Interview with a Vampire.

  8. I’d have to say Lestat from Anne Rice’s Vampire Chronicles. I adored the book the Vampire Lestat when I first read it!

  9. Eric from Sookie Stackhouse novels. yummy I love his personality.

  10. Dimitri from Vampire Academy wins hands down 🙂

  11. This is so hard as I adore vampire books. I suppose my favourite would have to be Lestat from Anne Rice’s books as they were the first vampire fiction I really got into. My favourite new comer is possibly Stefan from the Marcy Thompson books by Patricia Briggs. He mixes horror with gentlemanliness and manages to pull off sexy too. I hope to read more about him as the series keeps growing.

  12. Hmmmm…favorite vampire. I guess I’d have to say would be Lestat from Anne Rice’s novels. My first vampire books.

  13. The only vampire books that I have read are the Twilight series so I would have to say Carlisle and Esme Cullen. I have every intention of reading the Sookie series next year!

  14. Oh dear. I’m afraid I do not have a favorite vampire. At least, not one that comes quickly to mind. However, it seems quite certain that I will not win this contest if I have no favorite vampire. So, I will have to think on this a bit.

(returning after time spent in contemplation) Okay, my favorite vampire has to be Bunnicula! (He counts, doesn’t he?) Quite a time has passed since I’ve read that book!

  15. My favorite vampire is definitely Eric from the Sookie Stackhouse books. It took a while for him to grow on me but now I can’t remember why!

  16. Am I allowed to say the Vampire LeStat? Oh, I see someone already did! Well, I’m saying it again! I just love him!

  17. Definitely Edward, since he is the most obvious choice as the above person said. I do have a thing for Stephan in The Vampire Diaries Series though. He is pretty hot too!:)

  18. I would have to say Lestat from Interview with the Vampire – I only really liked the first three books of that series, though …

  19. Eric from The Sookie Stackhouse series. Not dull like Bill from the series, or scarily possessive and over-the-top like Edward in Twilight, but smart-mouthed, imperfect, power-wielding, charming, and a little bit irritated and bemused about having feelings for a human. I loved Dead to the World because he had a big role in it, and I’ve just finished Dead as a Doornail as a part of the Readathon. I laughed so hard when Sookie answered his question in it! (That sentence is deliberately vague to avoid spoilering)

  20. The only vampire book I have read so far is Dracula by Bram Stoker. It intrigued me so much that the character of Dracula was said to be based on a real person that I went on to read more about Vlad Dracul (the person Dracula is said to be based on). The real Vlad Dracul made the fictional Dracula look like a goody.

I’m rambling aren’t I…but this question reminded me of the time I read Dracula 🙂

  21. I can only answer the original, Count Dracula himself, as he’s the only vampire I’ve read about so far. (I saw Twilight and didn’t find Edward at all appealing) But I am planning on reading Dead Until Dark for a reading challenge and have it on very good authority that it is a great vampire book for those that don’t usually go in for vampire books. 🙂

  22. Dracula/Vlad Tepes from The Historian. He was creepy & such a puppet-master!

  23. Bill from Charlaine’s Southern Vampire series.

Angel & Spike from the Buffy graphic novels.

  24. I’ve only read one vampire series: Twilight. So, since I think Edward is a controlling boyfriend, I’ll pick his dad, Carlisle Cullen since he seems to have smarts and integrity.

  25. I think my favorite at the moment would be Stefan from the Vampire Diaries. I haven’t read that many vampire books, but he sticks out for me.

  26. It’s a toss up between Jean Claude from the Anita Blake books, Lestat from Anne Rice, & Eli from Let the Right One In!

  27. I’m not a big fan of vampire books, but I did go through a phase in college where I really liked Lestat from Anne Rices Vampire books.

  28. I actually haven’t read any vampire books yet (Twilight is on my shelf), but I’ve recently become a fan of the Sookie Stackhouse “True Blood” TV series. Eric all the way!

  29. That one’s easy! I have a thing for David Cassius from D.D. Barrant’s Dying Bites 😀 He’s the vampire head of the FBI in Barrant’s new paranormal mystery series.

  30. I really really really like Lucian from Bite Me If You Can (L. Sands) I think he’s sooo sexy!!!!

  31. Eric from Southern Vampire Series for sure!

  32. I’ve been listening to The Reformed Vampire Support Group by Catherine Jinks and the main character, Nina Harrison, is my new favorite vampire. Instead of sparkling and possessing ultra human strength and beauty, she’s a sickly, skinny vampire who subsists on guiena pigs and writes novels featuring the type of vampires we’re more familiar with. She’s smart and charming and certainly a great character.

  33. Can I be boring and say Dracula? He’s the original creepy guy and my ideal vampire image is always Bela Lugosi in the 30’s film. If we’re going with more modern interpretations, I have to agree with several people above and say Eric from the Sookie Stackhouse series. He’s so intriguing and really personifies what a vampire should be.

  34. Though I have a lot of books to read with vamps in them I haven’t gotten to them yet, I am working on Vol. 1 of Vampire Diaries right now as part of the readathon. The only series I have read is Twilight (not a fav) but I would have to say on there my favorite Vamp was Carlisle.

Would love to read the Southern Vamp series.

  35. Mine would have to be Darren in Cirque de Freak. It’s the only vampire book I’ve read! LOL

  36. My favorite is definitely Silas from The Graveyard Book by Neil Gaiman. He’s fantastic!

  37. So hard to only choose one! I would have to go with Wrath from JR Ward’s Dark Lover… only b/c he was my first vamp, and I’ll always have a soft spot for him! 🙂

  38. My favorite vampire would be Charlotte from Pretty Dead.

    I love the character.

  39. I know this is probably old news, but I STILL love Edward. Team Edward all the way. Do I REALLY need to say which book? LOL!!!

    Just in case! Twilight.

    circlebooks(at)shaw(dot)ca

  40. Mine’s Dave from Life Sucks. He’s such a hapless guy who hates being a vamp so much!

  41. i really like Bones and Vlad from the Night Huntress books!

  42. My favorite vampire from a book is Bill from the Southern Vampire series. Edward is a close 2nd. Another favorite is from a series that Linda Lael Miller wrote. I remember being in love with all the vampires in that series. I believe one of the names was Valerian, but I’m not sure. Anyone remember this series?

  43. One hundred percent, my favorite vampire is Constantine from Robin McKinley’s “Sunshine.”

I love him a ridiculous amount.

    It’s a little embarrassing, really….

(PS, is this the best MiniChallenge question ever? I think so!)

  44. Great challenge 🙂 My favorite vampire is Louis from Anne Rice’s Interview With the Vampire.

  45. Okay, I really liked Bill…until the series took a serious twist. (Which is why I was so angry for a couple of books, and yes, Eric helped ease my anger!) 🙂 I know it’s not popular to like the uber-popular Edward, but on the “sweet” scale, he definitely tops it; however, I’m a single woman over 30 and can’t pass up the vampires Sookie wrangles with!

  46. My favorite vampire is definitely Edward Cullen. And I see from the previous comments that I am not the only one loving that gorgeous vampire. 🙂
    Good luck with the challenge!

  47. My favorite vampire is Edward Cullen in the Twilight series.

  49. I already have the books, so don’t enter me! I just wanted to say my favorite vampire for today, is BUNNICULA, since bunnies are awesome, and vampire bunnies are way cool.

  50. I haven’t read any vampire fiction lately. However, I liked Nancy Collins’ femme fatale vampire Sonja Blue when I read the series a while back.

  51. My favourite vampires from books are:

Jasper – from the Twilight series
Eric – from the Sookie Stackhouse Series
Lestat – from the Vampire Chronicles of Anne Rice
Darren – from the Darren Shan series.

    😀

  52. Eric. Definitely. 🙂

  53. I have not read very many vampire books, so I will have to stick with Edward from Twilight.

  54. Michael from the Morganville Vampire books.

  55. […] happening: Joy Renee’s Mini-Challenge (last hour) Tara’s Mini-Challenge Trisha’s […]

  56. Dracula from Bram Stoker’s Dracula. I haven’t read a whole lot of vampire fiction, and I’m big on the classics.

  57. Edward from Twilight series. Not from the movie, but from the book. Mmmmm. 🙂

  58. I like the Vampire Lestat from Interview with the Vampire.

  59. Favourite vampire? I don’t know that I can choose just one. I do quite like Jody from Bloodsucking Fiends and You Suck. She’s not quite your normal vampire. And if I had to choose one from Twilight it would have to be Alice. And I have to agree with the Bunnicula votes. Who doesn’t liek Bunnicula???

  60. I haven’t read too many vampire books, though I’d like to read more! So, I’m going to have to go with Edward Cullen….there’s just something about that guy….

  61. […] colour is Shadow of the Wind – red or brown? I think it’s brown. Mini-challenges? I did Tara’s books that bite challenge and Trisha’s re-reading the classics […]

  62. I love Rose from the Vampire Academy books! She is such a strong female lead and I love her personality!!

  63. Probably Balthazar from the Evernight series by Claudia Gray. His really sweet and helpful. Or maybe uh Edward Cullen. Self-explanatory. 😛

  64. Am I allowed to pull a Vampire out from waaaaay back when?? I hope so.

    There are three actually.

Louis , Lestat, and Claudia. (Yep, from the Anne Rice novels.) If I had to pick just one though, I’d have to say Claudia. There was just something unsettling, vicious about her.

  65. I think it has to be James from L J Smith’s Nightworld series, ‘Secret Vampire’. Very dashing.

  66. Dracula, of course! Can’t go wrong with the original. A lot better than these pansy vampires we have nowadays.

  67. I got into reading vamp books with J.R. Ward and her Brotherhood series….

Kenyon with her vamps and dark hunter series is a close second in favorites but then so is

Lyndsey Sands Argeneau family Canadian vamps and hunters are a hoot. Very entertaining

I’ve read Meyers and I enjoyed her series and enjoyed immensely her adult novel HOST.

My favorite vamp is the one I am reading about at the time. They are all too engaging or entertaining to pick just one. And with books you don’t have to settle for one hero.

  68. My favorite vampire is definitely Edward from the Twilight series!

    shelcows AT gmail DOT com

  69. There is no other choice!

    DRACULA wins hands down!

  70. My favorite vampire? Damon from the Vampire Diaries. He was a bad boy in every sense at the beginning, but by the end he was a snarky awesome guy. 😀

  71. For me, it’s Simon in Cassie Clare’s THE MORTAL INSTRUMENTS series! His character had a great arc and I love everything about him.

  75. How terribly appropriate!! I was out to dinner when you posted this question, and as we left the house for dinner, I picked out Bitten and Smitten by Michelle Rowen to be the next book I’d read today. So, since I just met her, I’m going to nominate Sarah Dearly as my current favorite vampire — among many. I’m sure that the next vampire book I pick up will have a character that I like every bit as much.

  76. Ok… I havent read many Vampire books but see many that I want to. I am excited about your giveaway for this challenge as I have been wanting to read these but dont have any of them at this time.

My favorite vampire at this time is Edward of the Twilight Series

  77. Edward from Twilight. Swoon.

  78. Don’t enter me as I have read (and loved) the first two books in this series. But I did want to comment – I love Eric – I didn’t get the big deal over him until I read book #4! Now I am in love.

  79. Does Angel from the Angel graphic novels count? If not, how about Spike? 😉

  80. My favorite is most definitely Eric Northman from the Sookie Stackhouse series. He is so suave and sexy. It’s hard for me to pick any vampire I love more than him. Bill Compton comes a very far second. Then maybe Lestat.

  81. my favorite vampire from a novel is actually two. Jody and Tommy Flood from Bloodsucking Fiends and You Suck both by Christopher Moore. Mostly Jody is my favorite but I really like them as a couple.

  82. My current fav is Eric Northman but forever & always my heart belongs to Lestat with David Talbot & Pandora from Anne Rice’s Vampire Chronicles – I am kinda old school that way!

My tag on this post will say hlhosteh but please if I should win post it as bookobsessedgrl – I haven’t been able to get my WP id to say my preferred tag. Thanks!

  83. I loved the vampire Armand in the Anne Rice’s Interview With A Vampire. Lestat was great but Armand was ooh la la. Oh, and Antonio Banderas in the movie – magnifico!!!
